The 87th Volta a Portugal reached its conclusion on Avenida dos Aliados in Porto on 16 August, confirming Alexis Guérin as the overall winner of the 2026 race.
The Frenchman completed the Volta in 30:21:09, finishing 1:02 ahead of Anicolor Campicarn teammate Artem Nych. Pedro Silva secured third place and finished as the highest-ranked Portuguese rider.
The final day also belonged to Rui Oliveira, who won Stage 10 in Porto and completed the race as winner of the points classification.
Guérin added the mountains classification to his Yellow Jersey, Adrià Pericas secured the White Jersey, and Anicolor Campicarn completed its domination with victory in the team classification.

Final General Classification
Guérin took control of the Volta on the climb to Torre during Stage 4 and never surrendered the race lead.
Nych remained his closest challenger throughout the second half of the race, but Guérin’s victory on Senhora da Graça on Stage 9 extended the difference between the Anicolor teammates to 1:02.
That margin remained unchanged in Porto.
| Rank | Rider | Team | Time / Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Alexis Guérin | Anicolor Campicarn | 30:21:09 |
| 2 | Artem Nych | Anicolor Campicarn | +1:02 |
| 3 | Pedro Silva | Feira dos Sofás Boavista | +4:37 |
| 4 | José Neves | GI Group Holding Simoldes UDO | +4:47 |
| 5 | Adrià Pericas | UAE Team Emirates XRG | +5:38 |
| 6 | Tiago Antunes | Efapel Cycling | +5:53 |
Guérin therefore succeeds Nych, winner of the previous two editions, while Anicolor Campicarn finishes the race occupying the first two positions overall.

Yellow Jersey
Winner: Alexis Guérin
Team: Anicolor Campicarn
Final time: 30:21:09
Advantage: 1:02 over Artem Nych
Guérin’s path to overall victory was built in the mountains.
His Stage 4 victory at Torre gave him the Yellow Jersey. He then survived the Stage 5 individual time trial, the increasingly aggressive northern stages and the challenge posed by Nych and Adrià Pericas.
On Senhora da Graça, Guérin moved from defending the race to effectively deciding it.
His Stage 9 victory gave him enough of a cushion to approach Porto with control rather than aggression.
Final Points Classification
Winner: Rui Oliveira
Team: UAE Team Emirates XRG
Final total: 80 points
Oliveira’s Volta came full circle in Porto.
He had begun the race by finishing second in the Lisbon prologue and subsequently took the Yellow Jersey after Stage 1. Once his General Classification ambitions disappeared in the mountains, the Portuguese rider redirected his campaign towards stages and the Orange Jersey.
He entered the final day leading the points competition and then delivered the perfect conclusion.
Oliveira won Stage 10 on Avenida dos Aliados, beating Daniel Cavia and Francisco Campos, and confirmed himself as the final winner of the points classification.
Final Mountains Classification
Winner: Alexis Guérin
Team: Anicolor Campicarn
Jersey: Blue
Guérin’s dominance in the decisive mountain stages produced a second classification victory alongside the General Classification.
The Frenchman’s performances at Torre and Senhora da Graça were particularly important.
Rather than simply surviving Portugal’s major climbs, Guérin repeatedly used them to strengthen his position.
He therefore leaves the 87th Volta with both the Yellow Jersey and Blue Jersey.
Final Young Rider Classification
Winner: Adrià Pericas
Team: UAE Team Emirates XRG
Final GC position: 5th
Final GC gap: +5:38
Pericas leaves Portugal as one of the major revelations of the race.
The young Spaniard moved into the General Classification podium battle after his impressive Stage 7 victory at Termas do Gerês, where he defeated Nych and Guérin in a three-rider sprint.
A puncture during Stage 9 on Senhora da Graça ultimately cost him valuable time and removed him from the final podium battle.
Nevertheless, Pericas finished fifth overall at 5:38 and comfortably secured the White Jersey.
For UAE Team Emirates XRG, his performance provides one of the most important long-term stories to emerge from the 2026 Volta.
Final Team Classification
Winner: Anicolor Campicarn
The collective classification reflected what had already become obvious from the individual standings.
Anicolor Campicarn was the strongest General Classification team of the race.
Guérin finished first.
Nych finished second.
The team controlled the Yellow Jersey from Stage 4 onwards and repeatedly used its numerical strength to dictate the decisive mountain stages.
Winning the team classification completed an exceptional Volta for the Portuguese squad.
Final Classification Winners
| Classification | Winner | Team |
|---|---|---|
| General Classification | Alexis Guérin | Anicolor Campicarn |
| Points Classification | Rui Oliveira | UAE Team Emirates XRG |
| Mountains Classification | Alexis Guérin | Anicolor Campicarn |
| Young Rider Classification | Adrià Pericas | UAE Team Emirates XRG |
| Team Classification | Anicolor Campicarn |
Pedro Silva Leads the Portuguese Challenge
One of the most significant final classification stories belongs to Pedro Silva.
The Feira dos Sofás Boavista rider gradually moved through the General Classification as several contenders lost time during the second half of the race.
His consistency was rewarded with third overall at 4:37.
That made Silva the highest-placed Portuguese rider in the 87th Volta and placed a home rider on the final podium in Porto.
José Neves also completed an excellent race in fourth, only ten seconds behind Silva, while Tiago Antunes finished sixth.
Portugal therefore placed three riders inside the final top six.
Nych’s Third Consecutive Victory Does Not Arrive
Artem Nych entered the 2026 Volta attempting to win Portugal’s national tour for the third consecutive year.
He came remarkably close.
Nych remained Guérin’s closest challenger after Torre and gradually reduced the gap during the middle part of the race.
But the unusual tactical situation was always significant.
His principal rival was also his teammate.
Once Guérin demonstrated on Senhora da Graça that he remained strong enough to defend yellow himself, Anicolor’s priority became clear.
Nych finishes second at 1:02, ending his attempt at a third consecutive title but helping Anicolor achieve an imposing first and second overall.
UAE Leaves With Three Major Prizes
UAE Team Emirates XRG did not win the General Classification, but its impact on the race was substantial.
Julius Johansen won the Lisbon prologue and the Stage 5 time trial.
Rui Oliveira wore yellow early in the race, won the final stage and secured the points classification.
Adrià Pericas won Stage 7, finished fifth overall and took the White Jersey.
The WorldTeam therefore leaves Portugal with stage victories, two classification jerseys and one of the race’s most promising young performers.
A Race Marked by Sporting Achievement and Loss
The final classifications tell the sporting story of the 2026 Volta, but they cannot tell the entire story of the edition.
The death of Finlay Tarling, the 19 year old NSN Development Team rider involved in the Stage 8 incident, transformed the final days of the race.
Stage 8 was neutralised, NSN withdrew and the remaining stages were accompanied by tributes and mourning.
Guérin subsequently raced Stage 9 wearing a black leader’s jersey and dedicated his victory on Senhora da Graça to Tarling.
That context remained present through the final kilometres in Porto.
The 87th Volta Enters History
The sporting record is now complete.
Alexis Guérin, winner of the 2026 Volta a Portugal.
Artem Nych, second after attempting to win a third consecutive edition.
Pedro Silva, third and best Portuguese rider.
Rui Oliveira, winner in Porto and champion of the points classification.
Adrià Pericas, White Jersey and one of the revelations of the race.
Anicolor Campicarn, winner of the individual and team classifications.
The race that began with Julius Johansen racing against the clock beside the Tagus in Lisbon ended eleven days later with Oliveira celebrating on Avenida dos Aliados and Guérin standing at the top of the final podium.
The 87th Volta a Portugal is complete.
The next chapter will carry the race towards an extraordinary landmark: 100 years since the first Volta a Portugal in 1927.
