The league phase of the UEFA Champions League came to a dramatic close on 28 January 2026, confirming the final standings and setting the stage for both the round of 16 and the knockout play-offs. With 36 teams competing under the new format, the table reflects a demanding campaign that rewarded consistency at the top and punished any prolonged loss of form.
Arsenal finished as the undisputed leaders of the table, completing a flawless campaign with eight wins from eight matches. Mikel Arteta’s side scored 23 goals and conceded just four, ending with a commanding goal difference of plus 19 and the maximum 24 points. Their perfect run makes them one of the standout teams of the competition so far.
Bayern Munich followed in second place with seven wins and a single defeat, collecting 21 points. Liverpool secured third with 18 points after six victories, while Tottenham Hotspur claimed fourth place on 17 points, combining attacking efficiency with defensive solidity.

The battle for the remaining automatic round of 16 places was intense. Barcelona, Chelsea, Sporting CP, and Manchester City all finished on 16 points, with goal difference and overall performance determining their final positions from fifth to eighth. Sporting CP’s presence in the top eight stands out as a major achievement, underlining their strong European campaign against elite opposition.
Just outside the automatic qualification places, Real Madrid finished ninth on 15 points after an inconsistent run that included three defeats. Inter Milan also ended on 15 points, while Paris Saint Germain and Newcastle United followed closely on 14. Juventus, Atletico Madrid, and Atalanta completed the group of teams ranked between 13th and 15th, all securing spots in the play-off round.
Benfica finished 24th with nine points, the final position that still grants access to the Champions League play-offs. Despite five defeats and a negative goal difference, their dramatic late qualification ensures that they remain in the competition, extending their European journey after an unforgettable final matchday.
Below the playoff line, several notable clubs fell short. PSV, Napoli, Ajax, and Eintracht Frankfurt all endured difficult campaigns, while Villarreal and Kairat finished at the bottom with just one point each, unable to find consistency in the new league format.
With the league phase now complete, the top eight teams advance directly to the round of 16, while those ranked from ninth to 24th will contest the playoffs for the remaining places. The depth of competition and tight margins across the table underline how demanding this new Champions League structure has become, setting up a knockout phase filled with high stakes and compelling storylines.
