PALM BEACH, FL — President Donald Trump ignited a firestorm within his own political movement on Thursday, lashing out at several of his most prominent media allies and sparking a wave of “betrayal” from long-time supporters who now claim to be abandoning the MAGA cause.
In a series of blistering posts on Truth Social, Trump targeted a roster of right-wing heavyweights, including Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones—labeling them “low IQ” and “stupid people.” The President’s vitriol was triggered by their public criticism of his administration’s military campaign against Iran, which many in his base have branded a “forever war” that contradicts his “America First” non-interventionist promises.
A Fractured Base
The backlash from the President’s rank-and-file supporters was immediate and unusually sharp. On Truth Social, a platform typically known for its unwavering loyalty to Trump, users who claimed to have voted for him three times expressed profound disillusionment.
“As of last week, they’ve done nothing but make excuses for your behavior, and you think they’re the enemy?” wrote user “Misty Fields.” “They are why I am a triple Trumper! Whoever is telling you this is very wrong!”
Another user, “Deportation News,” linked the President’s aggression to mounting domestic scandals, including the recent release of the Jeffrey Epstein files. “Trump just going against everyone that fought for him… just because of the Epstein files and being at war with Iran for Israel,” they wrote. “They didn’t leave MAGA; MAGA left them. I feel so betrayed.”
Perhaps most symbolic was a post by “CaliMAGA69,” a self-described “proud deplorable,” who announced they would be “hanging up” a red MAGA hat personally signed by the President. “You need to step back and take a good, hard look at who is whispering in your ear,” the user warned.
The “Nuclear” Insult
The President’s tirade focused on the commentators’ opposition to the war, which was launched on February 28 following claims of an “imminent threat.” Trump accused the figures of effectively supporting a nuclear-armed Tehran.
“I know why Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones have all been fighting me… because they have one thing in common: Low IQs,” Trump posted. He further dismissed them as “nut jobs” and “troublemakers” who are “losers chasing cheap publicity” on “third-rate podcasts.”
The President also took personal swipes, ridiculing Carlson as a “broken man” and mocking Owens for her controversial theories regarding the First Lady of France, Brigitte Macron, noting he found the First Lady “far more beautiful” than the podcaster.
“Declaring War on His Own Base”
Political analysts suggest this internal rift could have lasting consequences for the 2026 midterm elections. Liberal influencer Micah Erfan argued Friday that the spectacle of a president attacking his “Day 1” defenders is a sign of a movement in terminal decline.
“Trump is openly declaring war on his own base,” Erfan wrote. “When you lose Alex Jones and Tucker Carlson, you aren’t just losing pundits; you’re losing the connective tissue of the MAGA movement.”
The infighting comes at a critical diplomatic juncture. As of Friday, a two-week ceasefire brokered by Pakistan remains in effect, though many of Trump’s supporters remain skeptical of any deal that doesn’t involve a full American withdrawal from the Persian Gulf.
